Adriatic Marinas, which is building a nautical-tourism resort in Tivat to be known as Porto Montenegro, has contributed to the development of the town by providing free wireless access to the Internet for the towns’ citizens. The value of this donation is estimated to be 45,000 euros.
The primary aim of the endeavor is to provide access to additional information and improve education possibilities for the citizens by providing free access to the global computer network. An additional aim is to contribute to the overall improvement of the tourism and business climate in Tivat.
This project is being implemented in cooperation with Montenegrin telecommunications operator MN News. The new wireless network to be set up will also be known as Porto Montenegro.
The network is based on standard 802.1 lb WiFi technology, which allows broadband access to users.
During the first phase of network development, five base-stations have been activated, covering the area of Tivat’s immediate downtown core.
Two base-stations have been set up at the office-building of Adriatic Marinas in Seljanovo, one is placed on the Municipality of Tivat building and one each at the Mladost High School and the building of the Maritime Security Directorate.
Free access to the Internet is available to all those who have notebook computers supporting WiFi technology, if they are used within the area covered by one of the base-stations.
Connection speed is 128/128Kbps by Flat model, which means that there is no limit to the amount of data a user can download.
Users of Porto Montenegro will have access to all Internet services, which are not limited by the defined speed. The Range of one base station is 100 meters for notebook computers and up to 300 meters for users who have external USB wireless cards.
According to the plan, once Porto Montenegro becomes fully operational, it will consist of 16 base-stations which will cover almost the entire Tivat Municipality with their signal. |
