His Excellency, Mr. Kevin Lyne, British Ambassador to Montenegro, hosted an informal but nonetheless elegant reception at Hotel Splendido on the Bay of Kotor, on Saturday, May 10.The event was open to all British subjects, as well as citizens of Commonwealth countries and invited guests from around the world. His Excellency, who has been in the ambassadorial post since November of last year, informed his guests that the United Kingdom is in the process of establishing a new home for its embassy in Podgorica that will be capable of providing British nationals with the consular services they expect and deserve. Mr. Ambassador made a short welcoming speech, which was infused with the sense of humour that Brits are known for the world over. Included in the crowd were professionals now living and working in Montenegro in fields such as tourism, real estate, securities and environmental protection. ![]() The Ambassador’s lovely wife Anne demonstrated that she is, by nature, a hostess who can make her guests feel genuinely welcome. As she mingled with the crowd she left a sea of smiles in her gentle wake. The embassy provided copies of a guidebook for British nationals abroad. The helpful document informs Brits as to what to do in cases of emergency, whether manmade or acts of God. This is His Excellency’s first Ambassadorship after being in Her Majesty’s service for 20 years. Prior to coming to Montenegro, Ambassador Lyne held posts in a number of countries including Morocco, Switzerland and Chile. ![]() The diplomatic couple are the proud parents of two daughters. An ever increasing number of Brits are discovering that Montenegro is a vacation spot to rival any in the world - as evidenced by the recent development of direct flights between the countries. Once they have been captivated by the stunning beauty of Montenegro and been entranced by its people and culture – all of which were in abundance at Hotel Splendido - many of them will not want to leave. Indeed, that is exactly what happened to many of the guests at the party who came to Montenegro on vacation and never left. Those fortunate Brits are helping transform Montenegro in a manner that certainly should not cause concern to their hosts but should, conversely, make them happy to have them on their soil. One of the Ambassador’s duties is to improve already friendly relations between the countries and the official Ambassador should take comfort in the fact that he has a lot of courteous, respectful and enthusiastic unofficial ambassadors helping him with that work. Her Majesty can rest assured that her Kingdom’s reputation and interests are in good hands in Montenegro. ![]()
