feature_fashion6.jpgAs this week’s issue of the Montenegro Times is being distributed, a press conference is underway to officially announce that the world final of the 29th Annual Ford Supermodel of the Year search will be held in Budva, on January 29, 2009.
Ford Models, which bills itself as, “the leading management company for models and hair and make-up artists globally, representing talent worldwide for more than 60 years,” has launched the careers of: Carmen, Candace Bergen, Cheryl Tiegs, Ali McGraw, Tippi Hedron, Jennifer Connelly, Lindsay Lohan, Kirsten Dunst and Mischa Barton.
Over the years Ford has also represented Christie Brinkley, Courteney Cox, Rachel Hunter and Stephanie Seymour.
Ford’s current roster includes: Chanel Iman, Brad Kroenig, Flavia de Oliveira, Patricia Velasquez, Nacho Figueras, and Crystal Renn.
The search, which is being conducted in 60 countries, is expected to attract as many as 60,000 applicants.
Ford has contracted Belgrade based agency Fabrika to organise the prestigious event in Budva, which is expected to attract 200 or more of the most important players in the global fashion industry
On May 12 Fabrika started searching for Montenegro’s representative by conducting casting calls in Hercig Novi, Tivat, Budva and Kotor. The competition is restricted to females between the ages of 16 and 21. National contest winners will receive modelling contracts worth $250,000.
Ford’s website says that the search is about more than simply finding, “that cookie cutter beauty. It's about finding a face with a personality behind it: A girl who exhibits confidence and that je-ne-c'est-quoi that will help bridge the reality gap that exists between the fashion world and the street.”
feature_fashion7.jpgSo, what, precisely, is Ford looking for in a potential supermodel of the year? “We encourage you to be at least 5' 8” to enter this contest. We need models to fit the samples that fashion designers provide. With that said, there are no hard restrictions with respect to body types.”
What kind of photos does Ford want wannabe supermodels to submit? “Sending great photos increases your chances of becoming a Ford Supermodel of the World. We suggest that you send a close-up with no smile, a close-up with a smile, a profile shot, and a full-length body shot. It is better to look natural and make sure you wear minimal make-up.”
And if you don’t meet the age/height/sex requirements but want to be a model all the same? “If you don't meet the contest requirements, that should not stop you from applying to Ford Models. Go to FordModels.com to submit your pictures because we scout for all divisions including men, teens, plus, and lifestyle.”
