The Social Democratic Party (SDP) part of Montenegro’s ruling coaliton, proposes to move the country’s parliament to the royal capital Cetinje. The SDP made their proposal through a proposed amendment to a bill on the royal capital. Cetinje was the center of government in Montenegro fom 1482 until 1946, when government institutions were moved to Titograd (now Podgorica).
The Liberal Party says that it will support the amendment but adds that Cetinje also needs more financial help from Podgorica. Liberal Leader Miodrag Zivkovic said, “SDP’s amendment should be supported. But the law lacks a number of other amendments that would provide material privileges for Cetinje, as it is definitely a city that has been dying for the last 20 years under the ruling of DPS.”
Zivkovic said that the first law on the royal capital that was made by Liberal Alliance of Montenegro (LSCG) during the mandate of the deceased mayor of Cetinje Miroslav Vickovic was its best version.
